Warrior of the Week: Lou Johnson

How long have you been practicing at Flux Power Yoga? How did you know this was your place?

About a year and a half. I knew this was my place because I felt and still feel a overwhelming sense of kindness inside that studio.

How has your practice evolved and /or what benefits have you gotten in your practice and in your life?

My practice became a journey from the first class I ever took from Laura Orso (I was to find out much later that she was trained at Flux). Shortly thereafter Kelly Villareal’s classes had me taking yoga home, I began reading. She invited me to and taught my very first heated class at the Flux studio and I was hooked. I dove in very quickly from there and 6 months later I was in teacher training myself. My journey is still very new and the first couple of years have had me seeing life in a completely fresh, immensely more healthy way. Now, along with my almost daily practice at Flux, I teach the same kinds of classes out in the community that Laura and Kelly taught me  to introduce yoga to others. Along the way and currently, yoga has provided me a pathway back towards a life of kindness and empathy, 2 things we all need to receive and give.

Favorite pose and why?

Dancers Pose – Because I can do it well on my mat yet when I’m in that pose, it challenges me to find equanimity off my mat where I often fall short. It teases me, lol.

Any advice for new yogis?

Just show up, let the yoga do it’s thing. Also, find balance – meditation and rejuvenation are as important as the physical.
