Warrior of the Week: Kate Smith

How long have you been practicing at Flux Power Yoga? How did you know this was your place?

I started at Flux last spring (April 2018). I knew Flux was my yoga home from the first sun salutation in the first class I took. The teaching method, the music, the theme, (“Remove the Rocks”) all spoke to me in exactly the way I needed at exactly the right time I needed it. I’ll admit that I cried in Savasana in that first class because I was pretty sure that I was onto something that was more than just the poses I was doing. Hot damn…was I right! I heart Flux and the team of amazing teachers who guide me into being a YES all day everyday!

How has your practiced evolved and /or what benefits have you gotten in your practice and in your life?

For the first time in the history of me, instead of being frustrated about limitations or things I can’t do, I’m able to celebrate new accomplishments and possibilities to go further in my yoga and in my entire life. While I used to look in the mirror and see only the things I hated about my body, I can now notice the positive changes and improvements it has taken on as a result of my yoga practice. I also smile more, I’m nicer, I’m present, my skin is brighter and I’m pretty happy most of the time. The biggest benefit are the connections I have made in a community of so many beautiful and unique souls!

Favorite pose and why?

Dare I say Wheel? This is one of those poses that connects me right away to my body because I can feel the progress that I have made and continue to make. It has limitless possibilities to go further and challenge my own physical edge! I also love a good wring out in Twisting chair! Also, an occasional inversion in the office is both fun and confusing to your co-workers!

Any advice for new yogis?

Smile, take it easy, be proud of yourself and keep coming back for more! This is the stuff that makes magic happen within your entire existence on and off the mat!
