Warrior of the Week: Christina Funk
How long have you been practicing at Flux Power Yoga? How did you know this was your place?
I started consistently coming to flux at the beginning of this last summer. It was easy to get comfortable here simply because of how welcoming the community is! The instructors do a phenomenal job working with yogis who are either just starting out or who have been at their practice for a while. It wasn’t difficult to adjust to this setting as it provides a safe space for growth and vulnerability.
How has your practice evolved and /or what benefits have you gotten in your practice and in your life?
Before coming to Flux, I had never been practicing yoga consistently. Through coming to flux, I have seen changes in not only my physical endurance, but in my mental health as well. Over the last year I’ve suffered frequently from my anxiety – consistently feeling on edge or falling victim to anxiety and panic attacks. Yoga for me has provided a safe space and relief from this constant nervousness, making going about day to day life that much easier. I use yoga not only as a way to heighten my physical abilities, but as a tool to cope with my anxiety as well
Favorite pose and why?
My favorite pose is bird of paradise – it was the first pose I learned that I felt was more advanced than what I’d been doing before, and I was proud that I was able to actually execute it.
Any advice for new yogis?
Don’t be afraid to try new things! I had never practiced yoga consistently till Flux and it has been an incredible experience! Yoga has enhanced my life and my well being, as it does for many others!
