Warrior of the Week: Judy Wagner

Meet our Warrior of the Week, Judy Wagner! If you show up to the 6:15am class, then you will have the pleasure of practicing alongside her. Judy always offers a warm smile and good vibes! That’s why she is our #fluxwow Warrior of the Week!

How long have you been practicing at Flux Power Yoga? How did you know this was your place?

Since December 2017.  Probably since the first day I walked into the studio. I started coming to Flux after five years of pretty terrible low back pain that was just getting worse despite trying many different therapies. I thought the heat might help. Melissa was very welcoming and helpful in providing modifications so I could actually do the class without hurting myself. It absolutely was and is working for me and I’m no longer spending everyday cringing in pain with any movement. The 55 min. class is really accessible for someone like me who has a million hobbies and still needs to make time to take care of myself. All of the teachers do such a good job at encouraging connection with other people in the classes so I really feel like I’m supported by this community.

How has your practiced evolved and /or what benefits have you gotten in your practice and in your life?

My perspective has definitely shifted in my approach to yoga. I’m much more focused on listening to my body and gently pushing myself. It’s an intense workout. There is so much growth that will happen just by showing up and being present. I can feel strength and flexibility in my body that was not there before. I’m part of a dance group that sometimes does Bhangra style of dance, which involves a lot of jumping and dropping into low squats. I can do the squats!! I can sit for way longer at work, and I can walk my giant, pulling dogs. There are areas I still feel restricted but I can feel them slowly opening up over time and I have faith that they will. Also, participating in the most recent 40-day challenge has brought meditation into my life which, holy smokes, is an amazing tool to cope with and enjoy life.

Favorite pose and why?

Probably child’s pose. Haha. I love those first moments of getting grounded, starting to release my hips and upper back, and getting focused on breath. They are very centering.

Any advice for new yogis?

Don’t be afraid to ask for modifications if something hurts. They actually work, are safer for your body, and will give you more access to a pose over time.
