Warrior of the Week: Margaret Chester

Meet our Warrior of the Week, Margaret Chester!
I have know Margaret for almost 15 years. She knows way more about yoga than I do and she is the most humble, kind and caring person. She is a living example of what it is to live yoga. Do you know she has written and self-published 2 yoga books?! Please ask her about them. SHe’s an amazing resource and an inspiring person. She keeps the most calm and steady manner, keeps the art of the hand-written letter alive and is just a joy to be around. Also, as if that wasn’t enough she is the manager of her husband Dr. Chester’s dental practice. #fluxWOW She is our Warrior of the Week!

How long have you been practicing at Flux Power Yoga? How did you know this was your place?

I have been enjoying the Flux Power Yoga community since June 2017. I fell in love with the island views, the ever-changing weather, the crazy seagulls, but most of all the people. Flux is an incredible community of interesting people from all walks of life. I always meet someone new, learn something interesting, and reconnect with myself!

How has your practiced evolved and /or what benefits have you gotten in your practice and in your life?

Practicing yoga postures has always been a challenge for me, since I am not very athletic, flexible or strong. However, over time the Baptiste Yoga™ sequence has increased my overall stamina, improved my balance, and boosted my bone density. The added bonus of practicing at Flux, is that I always learn something new about a posture I have been doing for years and of course, there is always “posture of the week” which translates to being more open to reality on and off the mat.

Favorite pose and why?

My favorite posture is Savasana. For me, it is the icing on the cake, especially after a challenging practice. It always quiets my mind, recharges my batteries, and makes me smile.  And where else can you lie down on the floor in the middle of the day, outside your home and it is socially acceptable!

Any advice for new yogis?

Practicing yoga is lifetime journey. You will get bursts of insights and then you will fall out of standing tall at the top of your mat; but it doesn’t matter. Because no matter how many sun salutations, triangles, and bridge poses you do; no two practices will ever be exactly the same. And herein lies the secret to yoga – each mindful breath will take you closer towards your true essence, ON and OFF the mat – if you are breathing mindfully – it’s all yoga.
