Warrior of the Week: Michael Sieczka

You will notice Mike, he’s a tall guy with a calm presence and always has a positive attitude and a smile. You’ll often see him practicing with his teenage daughter, the sweetest father/daughter yoga team you’ve ever seen. We are excited to have Mike as our #FluxWOW Warrior of the Week!

How long have you been practicing at Flux Power Yoga? How did you know this was your place?

Since October of 2017. I like the variety of styles and personalities that the teachers bring. The central routine of class, the theme of the week, and the overall essence of the studio is consistent, but each teacher brings their own perspective. I love that you can take the same class five times in a week and have them be consistent enough to feel confident in your practice, while still having a unique experience every time

How has your practiced evolved and /or what benefits have you gotten in your practice and in your life?

I participated in the 40-day challenge this January and learned a lot about myself (and my fellow yogis) that was not just about yoga. I decided to give it a try, even though I was not sure what I was signing up for or why. In the end what I got out of it was an understanding that commitment leads to accomplishment – I don’t need to know everything about why or how when starting something but committing to doing it is a huge part of making anything big happen.

Favorite pose and why?

Side Angle Pose – Like yoga in general, it’s requirements and benefits are multi-faceted. It requires strength, balance, twisting, and stretching and I find that it also requires concentrated attention to those things. I need to apply my full attention and focus – with the complete concentration on the physical, this is also the pose where I can count on setting aside any outside thoughts or distractions.

Any advice for new yogis?

Commitment, persistence, and patience. Commit to a regular routine – it doesn’t have to be herculean (you can build over time). Persist through the challenges – following through when it is difficult will be its own reward. Be patient with yourself – know that you will have setbacks, but remember that they are temporary, reversible, and not reflective of who you are as a person. The challenges are necessary, otherwise there would be no triumphs! Namaste.
