How long have you been practicing at Flux Power Yoga? How did you know this was your place?
Our youngest daughter Hannah (age 21) brought us to Flux the last week of winter break to try it out. This was my first yoga experience, and Maris and I have been consistently coming ever since. We have been hitting the zen on Wednesdays & Sundays with Kelly, and the power Saturdays early and Thursdays. I have since added Mondays. Maris did the May, 31 day challenge.
How has your practice evolved and /or what benefits have you gotten in your practice and in your life?
Well, at age 61 (Greg) with M.S., having been a life-long distance runner, I have tackled my challenge head-on by staying lean & mean 🙂 so I think. The past few years I had thought about yoga to aid my diminishing elasticity and flexibility. I thought I was in shape and I was surprised to be sucking wind with 15 minutes to go, my first day of (power) yoga last December. I have joked with Maris that some of our instructors (you know who you are) “Take no prisoners!”, and we still love you!.
Favorite pose and why?
Greg: “Crow”. I can’t say it is my favorite, rather a challenge, which I could not do initially. I get sweaty and my knees would slide off my elbows. I still sweat, but rather than placing my weight on my elbows, they are more of a touch point and I think my core holds me up. I laughed to myself when Jonathon modeled a twisting crow and I thought, “Ya, right! I will never be able to hold myself up!”. Now, I last to your count to three, and laugh to myself that I will never “shoot back to a plank”. Well, I now have to wait and see. Onward and upward!
Maris = Wheel. It took me three weeks to be able to pop up into wheel. The pose is still a challenge, especially when we only do one wheel (for one minute). My goal is to hold the pose for a minute and find ease in the pose (hahaha). I know when I have completed wheel the yoga practice is almost done and I have made it!
Any advice for new yogis?
Stay the course, consistency is the key! There is no free lunch, you have to put in the time to move forward and reap the rewards. Blessings on each of you, and thank you all for inspiring us! We are all in this together 🙂
