How long have you been practicing at Flux Power Yoga? How did you know this was your place?

Since the studio opened in June of 2017.  After taking almost 10 years off of yoga, I was ready to get back to a regular practice. I was intrigued by the new studio, it’s positive vibe, and the name Flux resonated with me. Not going to lie here, but that first class I took was hard. It was also fun, challenging, and soulful. I left the studio sweaty, worked over, and hooked! Flux has created an amazing yoga community!

How has your practice evolved and /or what benefits have you gotten in your practice and in your life?

Yoga helps make the other things I do better, both physically and mentally. I walked into my first class with a long list of poses that I thought I would never do because of previous injuries. Over the last two years, I have chipped away at that list and a lot of my self-limiting beliefs.

 Favorite pose and why?

Oh, so many favorites…crow, headstand, dancer, half-moon, boat. I love poses that require strength, balance, and focus, which is most of the Baptiste sequence!

Any advice for new yogis?

Come as you are, embrace the sweat, and remember that the benefits of this practice are worth the effort!

How long have you been practicing at Flux Power Yoga? How did you know this was your place?

I became a member of Flux back in September of 2018. Cami Grichel was the person that initially inspired me to give Flux a try… Thanks Cami!

How has your practice evolved and /or what benefits have you gotten in your practice and in your life?

Before I started Flux I was suffering from some shoulder, back & neck pain and weak ankles which was limited my mobility and ability to exercise regularly. After committing to practicing 3-5 times per week the pain and mobility issues subsided. I know have a stronger core mentally, physically and spiritually that is evident in the way I carry myself. Committing to Flux has truly helped me weather the day to day storms I’ve faced. I am now more confident and excited about growing stronger in my practice.

 Favorite pose and why?

Tree Pose is my favorite. I have weak ankles and it helps me to improve my stability. I  love the feeling when I’ve nailed the full expression of the pose, grounded, hands up, head back and letting yourself go without fear of falling out of the pose. It reminds me to take those calculated risks with confidence and joy.

Any advice for new yogis?

I’m a creature of habit and didn’t start to feel the benefits until I committed to going 4-6 times per week. I found just getting to class is half the battle. So make the commitment to just go even when you don’t feel up to it. You’ll be glad you did in the end.

How long have you been practicing at Flux Power Yoga? How did you know this was your place?

I’ve been practicing at Flux since around mid April. I joined with the two week introductory special and then jumped right in to the May challenge! I knew it was my place after a few classes, when I started seeing familiar faces, connecting with people and feeling like I am truly part of the Flux community, and not just attending a yoga class. I also love how welcoming Flux is to new members. It made my experience that much better.

How has your practice evolved and /or what benefits have you gotten in your practice and in your life?

My practice has evolved immensely in the past three months! I have practiced yoga for around 7 years, but never as regularly as I have been attending Flux. I have always been “inflexible” and at times became discouraged with my yoga practice because I didn’t see improvement. With the help of the May Challenge, I committed myself to attending regularly, which has been key. After having a hip replacement in May of 2018, I have still been struggling with some pain and inflexibility after surgery. This has improved by leaps and bounds since becoming a regular Flux attender. I have also improved upon some poses through the “pose of the week” teachings. This has been awesome! I’ve conquered head stand, improved my crow pose, learned how to shoot back into plank from crow and I’ve improved my wheel pose. Every day is a work in progress and I am thankful to have a healthy and strong body that allows me to practice yoga and be active. Yoga has also been a great way to ground me at the beginning of my day. I often attend the 6:15 a.m. class and then go to work as a police officer in Bellingham. I feel like after going to yoga, I am able to go to work feeling refreshed mentally and physically, which is important for my job.

 Favorite pose and why?

Headstand! This is my favorite pose for a couple of reasons. 1. I was never able to get into a headstand position without the assistance of a wall, before it was the “pose of the week” at Flux and I learned how to position my body to do it properly! 2. I can now get into a headstand without the assistance of a wall, and 3. I love the calming and relaxing effect that headstand has on my mind and body.

Attend regularly to see improvements and get to know others who attend! It will make your experience that much more enjoyable  to try something new!

How long have you been practicing at Flux Power Yoga? How did you know this was your place?

I started practicing at Flux in October of 2017. I knew Flux was my place because of the energy at the studio every single time you walk through the door. I love the balance of 55 minutes of heart and mind centering practice and a really good physical workout.

How has your practice evolved and /or what benefits have you gotten in your practice and in your life?

My practice has gotten much more consistent. After doing the 40 day challenge and the May 31 day challenge I was definitely more aware of the positive impact of consistency. The benefits for me have been countless- some that stand out are being able to be more in the moment, both in practice and life. Being able to see things from multiple perspectives. Recognizing what is a construct of the mind and it’s conditioning and what is reality.  Being ready now…

Favorite pose and why?

My favorite pose changes frequently! A lot of times it ends up being whatever the pose of the week is as we dive deeper into it and get more out of it. I can always count on shoulder stand though for a feel good moment and quick change of perspective.

Any advice for new yogis?

Bring an open heart and an open mind to your practice. Bring a balance of being gentle with yourself and pushing yourself to your edge.
